Solidarity Purchase Group (often referred to GAS ), is an Italian system of purchasing goods collectively, nothing more than a group of people who decide to come together and organize themselves to collectively buy food or common use products, using the concept of solidarity as guiding criterion in the choice of products. Solidarity that starts from the relationships between the members of the group and extends to support for the (small) producers who supply the products and respect for the environment. The collective purchases of these groups of people are therefore always evaluated according to a perspective of social, environmental and economic sustainability.
The advantages that a GAS is able to generate are many:
Advantages for producers , who are ensured a fair remuneration for their work.
Advantages for the environment , as organic and eco-compatible products are almost always preferred, and save unnecessary polluting emissions related to transport.
Advantages for members , who have the opportunity to purchase quality products and foods at more advantageous prices than the market, thanks to the shortening of the distribution chain and the purchase of larger quantities than individual consumers. Although it should be noted that buying through a GAS does not only mean always saving by buying large quantities, but above all asking ourselves what is behind a certain good and what impact our consumption will have on the environment and on the people who produced it, a desire to create a more humane conception of the economy and sustainable for the environment At the same time.
